My Work

I work in a real estate agents but please don't hate me, I don't sell real estate, I'm the marketing co-ordinator for 4 residential offices, the commercial office and the land office. The real estate agents is called Bennetts First National and is on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria Australia.

I'm kept pretty busy as I have to constantly keep the window displays up to date for each office, design and create property booklets, advertising material for newspapers, land brochures and promotional projects on a regular basis. I've only been there since September 97 and already my workload has dramatically increased, I now have a second person to help me and she is just great.

I use a Kodak DC210 digital camera to take pictures of properties, businesses and land and so on, then download it onto the PC and use Photoshop for the pictures to be resized or trimmed of excess and unwanted areas. The pictures are then saved as JPG's (because of our Internet site and the fact that they are much smaller files) and transferred into Quark Express to produce the necessary advertising material and copy. Land maps are tidied up and coloured to produce subdivisional land brochures, logos are designed for the new subdivision, promotional material is produced and the company have several in store dislays that have to be updated and improved all the time. I control the internet site and the updating, however I did not have a hand in designing the actual site, so if you think it looks good don't thank me. (Well you can if you want to but just don't tell anyone you did).

My work is fantastic to do and as I love desktop publishing and have always wanted to get into using the Industry DTP packages I just couldn't ask for a better place to be. I'm constantly asked can something be done with a particular piece of advertising and having used the packages of Photoshop and Quark for some time now I'm quite surprised at myself actually being able to do something I didn't think could be done. I don't like to think something can't be done, I like to think it can be done but I just haven't discovered how to yet. As one of our staff members said - "It can't be done" is just an excuse for when you really mean "I don't know how to do it". Now if I could just master this program called Illustrator........
